OUR STORY
In 2012, a 5-year old girl named Vivian came home from school and asked her mom a question: “Mommy, what does ‘I don’t care’ mean?”
Curious to know more, that mom said “It can mean a lot of things. How did it make you feel?” to which Vivian replied, “Sad. I shared something I was excited about with a friend today and she said 'I don’t care'.” Though that mom, Stacie Morgain Lewis, didn’t know it at the time, those words would be the spark for the creation of Harmonize Kidz. What Stacie did know was that she needed to find a creative, fun and spirited way to help her daughter navigate her friendships and feelings. So she wrote Vivian a song. With the unwavering support of Vivian's kindergarten teacher, Stacie went on to collaborate with Ben Cohn, the musical director of Broadway's Dear Evan Hansen, to write what would become the songs on her children's album, Harmonize. |
After spending months in the classroom observing students' responses to learning through her music, Stacie developed a complete social emotional learning curriculum. She was invited to pilot her program in the school, and by the end of that year she was hired. Now in numerous school systems, Harmonize Kidz has served thousands of children.
Whether in the classroom, at home, on the stage, or in partnerships with organizations such as Sandy Hook Promise, Melissa and Doug, Bank Street School for Children, or the Broadway Inspirational Voices, Harmonize Kidz has flourished in its mission to shape a new generation into compassionate empathetic and kind individuals.
